1) Scope & legal framework
This Policy is drafted under the UK GDPR (as incorporated by the Data Protection Act 2018) and applicable Data Protection Act 2018 provisions. Where electronic marketing/cookies are used, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR) may also apply.
2) Categories of personal data we process
Linked to you (App Store disclosure):
  • Contact Information: name, email address, other contact details you choose to provide.
  • Purposes: account creation, communications, support.
  • Lawful basis: Contract performance (Art. 6(1)(b) UK GDPR); Consent where required.
  • Identifiers: internal user ID.
  • Purposes: authentication, security, fraud prevention.
  • Basis: Contract performance, Legitimate interests (Art. 6(1)(f)).
  • Approximate Location (Coarse): if you grant permission.
  • Purposes: app features (e.g., discovery by region).
  • Basis: Consent (Art. 6(1)(a)).
  • User Content: profile photos/videos you upload; customer-support messages.
  • Purposes: operate the dating service, moderation, support.
  • Basis: Contract performance; Consent for uploads.
Not linked to you:
  • Diagnostics: crash reports and performance data used for App Functionality and Analytics.
  • Basis: Legitimate interests (service quality and reliability).
Special category data: we do not intentionally collect special category data. Do not upload content revealing such data unless you independently choose to do so; if uploaded, processing is based on your explicit consent (Art. 9(2)(a)) and you may withdraw it at any time.
3) Purposes of processing
  • Provide and improve DatedIn functionality, profile matching and in-app features.
  • Communicate with you and deliver support.
  • Ensure security, prevent fraud and misuse.
  • Perform analytics on stability and performance (without linking to your identity).
  • Comply with legal obligations.
4) Lawful bases summary
  • Contract performance — creating and operating your account and core features.
  • Consent — access to photos/camera, approximate location, optional notifications/marketing.
  • Legitimate interests — security, diagnostics, product improvement (balanced against your rights).
  • Legal obligation — disclosures to authorities where required.
5) Sharing and processors
We use service providers (hosting, analytics/crash reporting, content delivery, customer support tools, app stores’ billing). They act as processors under data-processing agreements and only process data on our instructions. Disclosures to third parties outside this list occur only where required by law or with your consent.
6) International transfers
Your data may be processed outside the UK. Where this happens, we rely on adequacy regulations or standard contractual clauses plus supplementary measures to ensure essentially equivalent protection.
7) Retention
  • Account data, identifiers, profile content: kept while your account is active and for up to 3 years after closure (dispute handling and legal claims), unless a longer/shorter period is required by law.
  • Diagnostics/performance data (not linked to you): retained as technically necessary (typically 12–24 months) then deleted or anonymised.
8) Your rights (UK GDPR)
You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it at any time. You can also lodge a complaint with the ICO (Information Commissioner’s Office) and contact us to exercise your rights.
9) Children
DatedIn is intended for 18+ only. We do not knowingly process children’s data.
